Web3 x AI Agent: Development and Opportunities in an Emerging Field
In the first half of 2024, the total market value of the cryptocurrency market grew by 37.3%, with AI-related projects performing strongly. The combination of Web3 and AI has become a hot topic of interest for venture capital, especially the application of AI Agents in the Web3 field, which has sparked widespread discussion.
AI Agent is an intelligent agent based on large language models that can autonomously understand, think, decide, and execute. Unlike traditional chatbots, AI Agents are designed to accomplish tasks independently without the need for continuous human instructions to achieve their goals.
Web3 brings advantages such as decentralization, censorship resistance, ownership, and composability to AI Agents. In turn, AI Agents provide Web3 users with more convenient on-chain information retrieval and interaction methods, which is expected to drive large-scale adoption.
Currently, the Web3 x AI Agent projects are mainly divided into two categories: one is on-chain conversational AI Agents, and the other is AI Agents with on-chain operational capabilities.
Taking Spectral as an example, the project allows users to build on-chain AI Agents, forming an on-chain agency economy. Its main products include Spectral Syntax (official collection of Agents), Spectral Nova (decentralized machine learning platform), Agent Wallets (wallets integrated with AI Agents), and Inferchain (Layer 1 centered around AI Agents). Spectral has received investments from several well-known VCs, and the token SPEC is listed for trading.
GaiaNet is a distributed AI infrastructure that aggregates AI Agent networks of knowledge bases from various fields in the form of nodes. It allows individuals and enterprises to quickly build AI Agents and provide services based on their expertise. The core components of GaiaNet include nodes, domain names, and a DAO governance structure.
In addition, there are some early projects worth noting, such as Zotto (an AI Agent for realizing trading intentions), AgentLayer (an AI Agent Layer2 based on OP Stack), and Olas Network (an off-chain AI Agent ecosystem), etc.
With the continuous development of Web3 and AI technologies, the application prospects of AI Agents in the blockchain field are broad. This emerging track is expected to bring significant changes to user experience, efficiency improvements, and innovative applications.
