TEN Protocol: The brand new Confidential Rollup technology aids Ethereum L2 in privacy and performance upgrades

TEN Protocol: Innovative Confidential Rollup Solving Ethereum L2 Pain Points

Recently, a group of core members who previously worked at R3 launched the TEN Protocol, an Ethereum layer two Rollup protocol focused on complete data encryption. This protocol allows developers to flexibly choose which parts of the smart contract need to remain private or public.

The developer of TEN, Obscuro Labs, recently completed a $9 million financing round, with several well-known institutions as investors. Currently, TEN is in the testnet phase and is expected to launch its mainnet in October, with its native token planned for release in June.

Innovative Confidential Rollup Technology

TEN Protocol has launched the innovative Confidential Rollup technology, a new type of Rollup inspired by Optimistic Rollup and ZK Rollup. It leverages confidential computing technology and economic incentives, retaining the performance and simple programming model of Optimistic Rollup, while achieving confidentiality, shortening withdrawal periods, and addressing the MEV issue.

Confidential Rollup uses Secure Enclaves and POBI (Proof of Block Inclusion) protocol. Secure Enclaves provide a secure execution environment for sensitive data, while POBI ensures fair selection and reward distribution for Rollup winners. Moreover, in extreme cases, it can also pause withdrawals to protect the network.

Compared to other Rollups, Confidential Rollup has the following advantages:

  1. Shorten withdrawal time
  2. Achieving decentralization from the very start of the design.
  3. Full support for Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)
  4. Comprehensive encryption of the entire L2 to eliminate the MEV problem.

Improve user experience and unlock diverse application scenarios

With the technical support of TEN Protocol, the experience of users in the crypto world has been significantly improved, leading to the emergence of various application scenarios:

  1. Provide MEV protection for ordinary retail investors
  2. Meet the strong demand of enterprise users for encryption of transaction details
  3. Enable smart contracts to keep secrets like human agents.

In the DeFi space, developers can finely control the content that is public and private. In the gaming sector, TEN makes it possible for games that rely on player behavior and location to remain confidential. Additionally, TEN can also improve the naming system, providing better privacy protection.

Other potential application scenarios include auctions, gambling, and commercial agreements, where there are privacy needs, TEN can provide good technical support.

Experienced Team

The TEN team's focus on privacy stems from their experiences at R3. The participants and investors in R3 are mostly financial institutions that manage large amounts of funds and have strict requirements for data privacy.

More than 50% of the members in the TEN team come from R3, and all hold executive positions. The founding team includes:

  • Gavin Thomas: Former head of the R3 Corda blockchain system
  • Tudor Malene: Former Chief Engineer and Solutions Architect at Corda
  • Cais Manai: Former Head of Products for R3 Payments and Digital Asset Projects
  • James Carlyle: Former Chief Engineer of R3, Co-Designer of Corda

The TEN token will be used to incentivize node operations, pay operational costs, participate in protocol governance voting, and provide incentives for future ecological development.

With the ongoing testing of the testnet and the upcoming launch of the mainnet, TEN is preparing to become a leading Layer 2 solution in the Web3 space.
