Nearly 20% of crude oil and 28% of natural gas production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico halted due to the impact of hurricanes.
On September 15th local time, the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management stated that due to the impact of Hurricane Frances, about one-fifth of the crude oil and 28% of the natural gas in the federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico are in a shutdown state. According to reports from producers, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement estimated that energy producers have stopped producing 338,690 barrels of oil and nearly 515 million cubic feet of natural gas per day in the Gulf of Mexico. Recently, Hurricane Frances swept through the major offshore oil and gas production areas of the United States and made landfall in Louisiana as a Category 2 hurricane on the 11th, causing power outages in four southern states of the United States.
